EXPERIENCE/STAFF

Dr. Tom Czeck

Veterinarian, Owner

Dr. Czeck graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BS in Animal Science, and a minor in Economics. And from the University of Minnesota School of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine

After graduation he spent 2 years working as a dairy veterinarian in Chino, California working with herds ranging from 500 to 3200 cows. Missing home, he came back to Minnesota working for a mixed animal practice and as a consulting veterinarian for Select Sires before settling in at Freeport Veterinary Service.

Tom is married with 4 children, and is living on his home farm where they raise Red Angus cattle and Saanen dairy goats.

Because the family is active in 4-H, the farm also has horses, rabbits, chickens, and ducks. He spends his spare time farming, hunting and fishing.
Dr. Lee Michels
V
eterinarian
Dr. Michels graduated from the University of Minnesota with an Applied Business Certificate and a BS in Animal Science. Through veterinary school at the University of Minnesota he focused on food animal medicine, specifically dairy medicine and production.  Lee grew up on a small dairy farm in Western Wisconsin.  Aside from working with cattle and dairymen, Lee enjoys riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, fishing,         canoeing, and hunting.

Dr. Steve Baldwin
Veterinarian

My name is Dr. Steve Baldwin and I graduated from Delaware Valley University of Doylestown, PA with a BS in Animal Science, then from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.  My clinical, and final, year of schooling took place at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I took full advantage of being in ‘America’s Dairyland’ and loved every minute of it.  I grew up on a small Holstein dairy farm in northwest New Jersey, but once I discovered the Midwest, I knew it was where I belonged.  My areas of interest circle around improving the dairy industry, such as calf health management, transition cow assessment, and cow comfort.

Outside of work, my wife, Brittany, and I enjoy exploring the great outdoors. We love hiking and camping in the warmer months, and snowmobiling in the winter. We are always looking for new state parks and trails to venture to. Our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, named Tanner, loves to get out into the wilderness just as much as we do. One hobby that I am trying to perfect is home brewing. I have made a few batches in the past, but I am currently working on creating my own recipes. These hobbies, as well as gardening, woodworking, and small engine repair are of interest to me and I hope to further pursue them in the near future.

Melissa Czeck

Practice Manager, Veterinary Technician

Melissa attended the Medical Institute of Minnesota to receive an AAS degree as a Certified Veterinary Technician. Before coming to Freeport Veterinary Service in 1999 she worked at a mixed animal practice and the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association as a coordinator for the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps, an "all-hazards", "all-emergencies" volunteer responder program, working primarily with planning should there ever be a nuclear release from our nuclear plants. Melissa is married to Tom and has 4 children. She breeds and shows Saanen dairy goats, both locally and nationally and loves to help the kids with their never ending 4-H projects. She volunteers with Stearns County 4-H and the Minnesota Dairy Goat Association.

Kelly Burg

Receptionist

Kelly has been a receptionist with Freeport Veterinary Service since 2011. Previously she and her husband had a dairy farm where she thoroughly enjoyed working with the cattle. Her family includes her husband John, and 3 children Tyler, Shelby and Justin. Her free time is spent taking walks, reading books, fishing … anything outside.
